Community Interest Signs

Permitted by conditional use permit. The size, configuration, and design are per conditional use permit. Community interest signs shall [1] only display information of general interest to City residents, [2] may be located on private or public property (including street rights-of-way), [3] conform to visibility requirements, [4] and shall not count against sign area permitted on private property. Community interest signs shall not advertise a product, private event, or activity for profit.

Temporary Signs

One "For Sale" or "For Rent" sign not exceeding 12 sq. ft. in area.

bullet

One contractor sign not exceeding 32 sq. ft. During the time construction is actively under way.

bulletTemporary political signs from 60 prior to through 10 days following an election. Total political signs on a lot shall not exceed 32 sq. ft.
bulletTwo subdivision signs not exceeding 32 sq. ft. each are permitted until 80% of the lots have been developed. One additional subdivision sign for each 100 lots in excess of 100 lots.

Nonconforming Signs

Nonconforming signs may remain but may not be enlarged, or increased in number, height, or illumination. Nonconforming signs must be removed when new signs are added, when a business changes, or when new tenants occupy a building.

Prohibited Signs

Signs interfering with traffic or traffic visibility.

Signs with fluttering, rotating, or moving parts (except sequin-like eye catchers and temporary signs)

bullet

Illuminated flashing signs.

Illuminated signs with lighting element (except neon) visible from residential property.

bulletPortable signs; inflatable signs.
bulletAdvertising vehicle signs (except as temporary signs).
bulletOff-premise signs (except within the right-of-way of IH 94 and STH 16 & 67).
Notes:

1. Window signs cannot exceed 20% of any one window, or 10% of all combined window areas on the same facade.

2. The owner of property containing more than one tenant shall allocate signs to the tenants (per above formulas).
